Surveillance

PETERSON SURVEILLANCE

Private surveillance is an important component of many private investigation case assignments. Some would consider surveillance as a kind of art or science because it takes a certain talent to watch and listen to suspects without their knowledge. Often times, surveillance counts as a large part of collecting information about a specific target, whether it is a person, place or thing. For the most part, surveillance is captured through audio recordings, video recordings and even still pictures taken with a camera.

Types of Private Surveillance Practiced

Many forms of private surveillance exist, depending on the type of case assignment presented to an investigator. For instance, if you were investigating an infidelity case, chances are the primary target, the alleged adulterer, would not be expecting to be watched so they would not be guarded with their actions. Following them would be easier along with gathering evidence such as taking pictures.

Mr. Peterson has over 20 years in executive protection experience to include high net worth individuals, celebrities, and politicians. His clients include Fortune 500 companies and royalty

Insurance along with personal injury investigations are often trickier for private detectives because the private surveillance would likely be anticipated. Attorneys for the so-called victims would warn them to be on the look-out for certain tactics which makes surveillance harder. Therefore, the investigators have to weed out those behaviours that are grounded in reality and which are done purposefully to throw off suspicion. In private surveillance cases such as these, the detectives are limited in some of the tools they use such as videotaping. However, they have other high-tech tools they can use to be successful.

Surveillance Tactics

Tactics Used for the Surveillance

The ability to use the natural surroundings makes surveillance more successful. For instance, public areas crowded with people would provide exceptional concealment for an investigator, particularly when taking pictures or taping videos. They could be mistaken for visitors or tourists in the area. Cable repair vans or even meter reader vehicles are expected in neighbourhoods and conducting surveillance from them would not be expected by the guilty parties.

Remote areas, private property and largely inaccessible areas can create challenges for private surveillance. There typically are fewer camouflage options for the investigators. Luckily, with the latest technology such as global positioning systems, covert and long range cameras, night vision technology and listening devices, a private detective can get around problems such as these.

Hiring Investigators for Surveillance

While you may think you can be sneaky and successfully trail and keep tabs on the alleged perpetrator, this type of investigation is best left to professionals. What happens if you were ever caught? Any future efforts at private surveillance might be less effective, even with a professional, because you essentially gave the perpetrator a heads up that you are suspicious of their actions. Do yourself a favour and rely on a professional investigator for your private surveillance assignments.
